What is a mold? Mold is the core production tool, and a good mold is an important guarantee for subsequent production; How is the mold made? Is it difficult to make molds? Although mold manufacturing belongs to the category of mechanical manufacturing, due to the characteristics of the mold and the nature of production, it is difficult to make mold parts in traditional machining.
The mold is a forming processing tool, so the hardness of the mold material is higher than that of the parts. For example, the formed parts of cold stamping molds are generally made of quenching tools or cemented carbide, so it is difficult to manufacture with traditional cutting methods.
The processing quality of the mold mainly includes dimensional accuracy, shape accuracy, position accuracy (collectively referred to as processing accuracy), surface roughness and so on. The machining accuracy of the mold is determined by the requirements of the parts and the mold structure. Generally speaking, the accuracy of the working part of the mold is 2 to 4 levels higher than that of the part, and the manufacturing tolerance is controlled within ±0.01mm, and some even need to be in the micron range; Mold processing surface is not allowed to have defects, the working surface roughness is less than 0.8&mum.
Generally speaking, the production of a part only needs 1 to 2 pairs of molds, and even hammer forging dies are also small batch production, so the mold is generally single production, mostly using traditional methods of processing, long production cycle, high investment cost of equipment and tools.
